In its moment of maximum splendor, the Inca Empire extended its power over several countries in the region and therefore established a gigantic network of roads known as Qhapac Ñan (royal road or the Inca, in Quechua), which came to unite Quito (Ecuador ) with Tucumán (Argentina) through the Cordillera de los Andes. Our Inca Trail is just a small part of this wide circuit, which stands out for its incredible landscapes, important archaeological complexes, as well as for its great diversity of flora and fauna.

The Inca Trail has different routes. The most requested is the 45 km (most operators do it in 4 days / 3 nights) that starts in Piscacucho (km 82), near Ollantaytambo, which is reached by train or bus. From this point begins the walk through the creek of the Cusichaca River to the heights of the town of  Huayllambamba. Then climb up to the Huarmihuañusca pass (at 4,200 masl), considered the highest point of the entire trail. You can also visit the circular ruins of Runkuracay, as well as an impressive Inca tunnel that is found in the rock until the moment when you can see snowy mountains such as Salkantay and Veronica until you reach Puyupatamarca (city of clouds), the most impressive Inca complex of the route. Finally, you will go through a cloud forest with a diversity of flora and fauna until you reach the 50 steps that lead to the Intipunku (gateway to the sun or entrance to Machu Picchu).

First day: Cusco, Piscacucho (kilometer 82) and Huayllabamba.

We will go to the hotel between 6:00 am and 6:30 am to transport you to Ollantaytambo, where we will make a brief stop to buy some supplies for the walk: water, fruit, rehydration, sunscreen, batteries for flashlights, hats or hats , etc. Later we will continue with our trip until we reach the town of Piscacucho (located at kilometer 82), where we will meet with the staff that will assist us during our journey. At this point is the control of the park, whose staff we will show our passports and tickets provided by our company, we will begin our walk along the banks of the Urubamba River until we reach the archaeological complex of Patallaqta (2750 masl), we will continue walking through an area full of vegetation where if we are lucky we will observe the giant hummingbird and after two hours we will arrive at our first camp, located in Huayllabamba.
During our tour we will reach a maximum height of 2954 masl, minimum height of 2670 masl, the distance to travel is 12 km, the walking time is from 5 to 6 hours and we will camp at an altitude of 2954 meters above sea level.

Second day: Huayllabamba, Warmiwañusca and Pacaymayu.

After breakfast we will continue our journey, crossing the most difficult part of the road, we will ascend the Warmihuañusca pass. We will walk among valleys, vegetation and cloud forests that have an unequaled beauty until we reach Llulluchapampa, a good place to take a short break before ascending the Warmihuañusca pass "Dead Woman", this point is about 4,200 m.a.s. l. along our route we can see how the vegetation changes and when we reach the top, we will be compensated by a beautiful view of the snowy mountains (the Veronica) and Andean landscapes.
Then we will descend through a sinuous valley until we reach a point where we will stop for lunch. We will continue until we reach the Pacaymayu river valley at 3,600 masl where we will spend the second night.

After visiting this site, we will descend the steps carved in rock until we reach the Wiñaywayna citadel 2700 masl, which means "Forever young", it is at an altitude of 2 490 masl, and the name derives thanks to the typical orchids that can be found throughout the year with its red, yellow and violet flowers. This is possibly the most attractive of all the palaces on the route of the Inca Trail, and the last urban center before reaching Machu Picchu.
After exploring every corner of Wiñaywayna, we will go to our last camp, which is located a few meters from the archaeological complex and at night we will have a small party to say goodbye to the staff that accompanied us during the walk.
